The Big City

12 Mar

It was my mumma’s birthday last week so as a little treat we went up to London for 3 days to see the sights, cram in as much shopping as possible, and to see Russell Brand’s Give it Up gig for Comic Relief. Epic. That is all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!

Camden was AMAAAAAZING. Like i felt at home and so comfortable there – everyone was so bright and colourful! Oh and the shopping was divine!

Though i must say my fave part of the week had to be when we were gawping at the Louboutins in Selfridges, and someone asked me where i had bought my shoes from! I was stood surrounded by gorgeous heels and an expensive-looking lady asked me when i got MY shoes from?! I felt hideously common when i replied “errm Camden Market”. The shoes in question are gold sparkly jelly shoes, £25 from a little shop in Camden. Similar to the ‘Melissa’ shoes HERE.

ULTIMATE COMPLIMENT!

Reminds me of the last time i was in Selfridges when the Vivienne Westwood sales assisstant complimented my Primark top – ha! Proves that you don’t need to splash the cash to look expensive!

Keep Stylish!

January Mayhem.. A Little Catchup

6 Feb

Good evening my lovely followers (and the equally lovely new visitors!)

So i haven’t blogged for quite a period of time now, since early December. I feel truly awful for neglecting my blog for so long, and i do apologise for the lack of posts! However, university issues and personal matters took over the last couple of months and finally the stress is subsiding a little – a great chance to get back on the blogging bandwagon!

I hope you all had the most AMAAAAAZING Christmas, in my opinion, too much food, a warm fire and a room full of happy people who you love – is there anything more perfect?!

And did you get any particularly gorgey gifts? Nothing beats Christmas,A particular gift that i am now head over heels in love with is this sparkly little number!

25F45CMUL_large

I often open my wardrobe and just stroke it. Sad, but so true . Unfortunately the sequins are starting to fall off it, but a few stitches here and there will do the trick! Some of Louise Gray’s Topshop Collection are in the Topshop sale now, so do have a little look and check out the sale in your local store to find the further reduced sequinned goodies by Gray!

I managed to get my UCAS application form sent off in December so January was very exciting and equally nerve-racking indeed! If you have ever applied (or are applying) to an art and design based course you will completely understand the stress that comes when you are invited to interview. Cue panic attacks, empty wallets from buying portfolio, broken sanity from finding work to fill portfolio and finally, dislocating limbs whilst carrying portfolio. I may not be short, but i am not the most muscular, so transporting the portfolio is always a bit of an ordeal. Who on Earth decided that an A1 portfolio was practical? On the tube in London it was especially horrendous. I call it Tube Rage.

I applied to study BA Fashion Design at (not in any particular order):

-Nottingham Trent – Unconditional Offer

-East London – Conditional Offer

-Northumbria – Interview

-Kingston – Interview

-Westminster

I am very confused at the moment as to where i would like to go, but visiting the universities for interviews is already helping me to make the decision. You just have to remember that its not just them judging you, you are judging them too!

I’ve found the most amazing website today that gives you all the inside goss of where has the best nightlife etc and comments from actual students – i have already found it so helpful, so do check it out if your are having difficulty making decisions!

http://university.which.co.uk

Anyway, enough of all the University nonsense for a minute!

I would just like to share with you the outcome for my most recent project, named ‘Culture Clash’. The cultures I chose to research were Welsh Farmers and Tibet. A pretty good clash indeed!

820799_10151289363999912_615540096_o-1

I’m super pleased with the outcome, wish i had photographed my illustrations before they went in my portfolio too! I printed the fabric myself, and used sustainable/recycled materials throughout the entire garment.

I am sorry about the length of this post, but it is nice to be able to put it all down in words – puts it all into perspective really.

I’d love you know if you’re applying for Fashion and where to?! And its always great to hear about peoples interview experiences too!

Reverse Ombre – SS13’s Hot New Trend

1 Feb

Hello my lovelies! I haven’t blogged in SOOOO long, and i have many reasons for that i can assure you! My next post will be a little catch up, as i have missed this blogging malarky ridiculous amounts!

Anyway, I visited the Valentino Exhibition at Somerset House in the New Year (expect a Valentino post imminently!) and on the long and tedious train journey home, with the ever charming First Great Western Trains (sarcasm, of course) my mum and I have a habit of retrieving the used newspapers left behind by the uptight business men and reading them. In this particular newspaper, an Evening Standard i believe, i found a really interesting article regarding the new dip dye look. Step aside Ombre, the reverse ombre is taking over!

I do like the ombre look, as it immediately creates a whole new hair style and can be really flattering. However, i’m more of a girl who likes to stand out – and that is what the reverse dip dye is all about…

So what is the reverse ombre?! Well, the photos say it all!

As seen on Prada’s AW12 catwalk, it was all about pale roots and dark ends – perfect if you fancy letting the hair dye grow out naturally, hehe!

Its a very striking look, especially the blonde with the jet black ends, would look fab with a mass of curls!

What do you think of the Reverse Ombre trend? Will you be taking the dip dye plunge anytime soon?! Let me know!

Gurt lush to be blogging again – i promise to be more routine with it from now on! haha!

Louise-Gray-SS13(image from http://ftape.com)

LOUISE GRAY SS13

Louise Gray’s collections are always so fun and vibrant, i especially love the combinations of textures in this dress. The blue colour palette ties it all together, whilst the different fabrics/textures give it a patchwork effect! Furthermore, the 60s shift style of this dress is gorgeous – i’m a sucker for the shift dress! Louise Gray has updated a classic look, making it modern and edgy!

Remember to look out for tomorrow’s ‘Fash’vent Calendar post!

ALBERTA FERRETTI SS13

The thing i love about this garment is the intricacy of the embellishment. The beads and sequins adorn the fabric seamlessly, creating a whole new material that sparkles in the light. It also is an elegant twist on the peplum trend! Perhaps a beautiful wedding outfit? But then again, wouldn’t want to outshine the bride!

JASON WU SS13

Jason Wu’s SS13 collection – TO DIE FOR. He has incorporated the harness idea into stunning and striking dresses, giving them a completely new dynamic. I feel another Wu FASHvent post coming! I love the deep navy colour of this garment, with the stark white contrast of the chest piece, are they snowflakes, are they flowers? Either way, i’m loving it! The flash of leg keeps is sleek and sexy whilst the chiffon gives it a delicacy that is really pretty.

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD SS13

Westwood, the Queen of Quirky! Nothing quite compared to her SS13 fashion show – oompa loompa makeup, extravagant up dos and her signature wacky garments! I love this one. The sparkly playsuit is very wearable, but the high cut on the crotch makes it strikingly different and very high-end! This is totally my pick for New Years Eve Parties!

MARY KATRANTZOU SS13

I really love the ‘Queen of Print’ ‘s new ss13 collection. Inspired by postage stamps, it includes bright, block colours and recognisable stamp features. This is one of the more subtle garments from the collection. I really like the metallic sheen to this dress, it looks luxurious and silky which definitely adds to the overall allure of the dress. The print is gorgeous, it looks like a mixture of Aztec and Asian print influences.

Another glittery number for today! And can you blame me when its only 11 days ’till Christmas?! I love how the sequins almost drip off the sleek dress, it glides down the frame create an elegant red-carpet dress. The shapeless fit would flatter a slim figure, think 20s flapper dress! Ashish has dressed this sparkly number with a messy up-do and trainers to create a juxtaposition of glam with grunge.

Tropicana madness! I adore the bright splats of colour used in the embellishment of this dress, it compliments the metallic/bronzed silk beautifully. Teemed with fun, colourful earrings and an exotic headscarf, this is a perfect holiday party outfit! The print/embroidery looks like it could be inspired by oriental influences, or the beautiful Asian Ceramics and tapestries. Truly a work of art, nicely done D&G!

Super sexy sequins – what more could you ask for? The simplistic and sleek shape lets the sparkle do the talking! Even the combination of the sequinned jacket AND skirt isn’t too overpowering, instead looking chic and super glam! Double sequin ensembles are a big YES! Perfect Christmas party get-up? I THINK SO!
